RU Students Win National Debate

Female students of Ritman University on 31st July, 2017 beat their counterparts from Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State to emerge winners of a debate during the Women Supporting Women National Conference. Debate topic was “Women are the Backbone of Society, therefore, they Make Better Leaders”, with RU on the proposing side at Governor’s Office Annex, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Christiana Obaila, Melody Dodoh and Enobong Nyahette spoke for Ritman University.

It was to mark the National Conference of National Female Students Association of Nigeria and attended by students, women leaders, academics and government representatives. In attendance were delegates and debaters from tertiary institutions in different parts of the country, including the University of Nigeria (Nsukka & Enugu campuses), University of Benin, Akwa Ibom State University, Rivers State University, Abia State University, University of Uyo, University of Maiduguri, University of Abuja, Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic (Rivers State) and others. Among other objectives, the conference was designed to encourage female students nationwide to discuss opportunities, promote spirit of entrepreneurship, education, health, security and economic empowerment.

Dr. Udondata gets Elected into European Research Centre

Acting Dean of Humanities at RU, Dr. Joseph Udondata has been elected into the European Centre for Research Training and Development, UK. Among other criteria, Udondata won this recognition for his paper titled Structural Considerations and Grammaticality in Annang Language, which was reviewed and accepted for publication without any corrections by the British Journal of English Linguistics. The Journal is affiliated to British Research Institute, European Research Institute of Science and Technology, British Library, and databases in the UK, US and Canada. As noted by the Journal’s Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Udondata’s work would be read in libraries at Oxford, Cambridge, National Libraries of Scotland and Wales, Trinity College Dublin and others around the world.

Dr. Joseph Philip Udondata has been teaching English since 1978 and was nominated by the Government of Cross River State Schools Management Committee as one of the gifted teachers in 1987, plus many other awards and recognitions in academic and social spheres. A prolific writer with more than 50 publications to his credit, Udondata was Dean of Social Sciences at Obong University where he was honoured with a recognition certificate. The lecturer has presented over 25 papers in seminars and workshops across Nigeria. He has travelled to many countries, including Israel, Egypt, Palestine and Turkey. 

VC Ntuen Appointed Visiting Professional Fellow, Research Scholar at Nigerian Defence Academy

The Commandant of Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna has appointed Prof Celestine Ntuen as Visiting Professional Fellow and Research Scholar to the Academy. Prof Ntuen, who is Vice Chancellor of Ritman University, Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State had also received Lifetime Service Award of Excellence from Faculty of Engineering, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

Ntuen delivered the inaugural lecture of NDA on 6th July, 2017, analyzing Cybersecurity trends and giving innovative ideas on combating Cybercrime while also meeting challenges to national security on Cyberspace.

He was an Advisory Board Member of USA Army Technology Planning and Member of North Carolina University System Council of Research Officers. His experience also includes Founder/Director of Centre for Human-Machine Studies and Director of US Army funded Centre of Human-Centric Command and Control Decision-Making (one of the four Centres of US Army Battlefield Excellence). Ntuen has twice won the Commander’s Letter of Excellence for developing computer software to automate human sensemaking for complex battlefield information processing in the USA.

Northern Nigeria Youths Endorse Ritman University

The Arewa Consultative Youth Assembly (ACYA) has presented certificate of credence to Ritman University, recognizing it as the “Most Outstanding Private University in Nigeria”. This umbrella body of Northern Nigeria youths also gave the institution’s Vice Chancellor – Prof Celestine Ntuen – the Sir Ahmadu Bello Platinum Leadership Award. The group turbaned Prof Ntuen as Garkuwan Matasan Arewa Najeriya (Shield of Northern Nigeria Youths) and inducted him into the Arewa Youths Hall of Fame. Event held Monday 21st November, 2016 at the university’s Senate Chambers.

Hon Ahmed Ibrahim, ACYA’s Director of Research and Documentation asserted that “Ritman University has been described as a model, benchmark and reference point, the most dynamic, progressive and fastest growing human resources factory of all other universities in Africa”. Prof Ntuen disclosed that Ritman University plans to establish a Youth Development Centre and encouraged Arewa Youths to work with his university in planning and executing youth-related programmes and conferences.

Pan-African Body Confers Double Award on RU Vice Chancellor

Vice Chancellor of Ritman University, Prof. Celestine Ntuen, has won the Pan-African Servant Leadership and Distinguished Merit Leadership Awards. The awards were presented by the Initiative for Positive Influence on African Youth (IPIAY) in a ceremony at the Ritman University campus in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State on 4th August, 2016. Head of the IPIAY delegation, Mr. Paul Matthew, disclosed that these awards were in recognition of Professor Ntuen’s immense contribution to human capital development, nation-building, education and peace in Africa. He described the Vice Chancellor as a passionate investor in youth, student and community development.

Nigeria Library Association Honours RU Librarian

Acting University Librarian of RU, Mr. Ephraim Duru, has received an Award of Recognition from the Nigeria Library Association (NLA), Akwa Ibom State Chapter. The award was presented to Mr. Duru on 5th April, 2017 in recognition of his work with regard to development of library services in Akwa Ibom State. He is a Chartered Librarian of Nigeria who has been in library services for up to 33 years. Mr. Duru has held top positions of responsibility, including Chairman, Cross River State Chapter and National Executive Council Member of NLA.  He was Deputy Librarian at the University of Uyo and Chairman, Editorial Board of the journal, The Librarian and Information Manager.


Presidential Amnesty Programme Sponsors Students to RU

More than a hundred students are currently studying at Ritman University on Federal Government scholarship through the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP). Prior to enlisting RU as one of its training institutions, the PAP inspection team had expressed satisfaction at the quality of facilities, lecturers and instruction at RU as a viable alternative to studying abroad.

Head of Education in the Amnesty Office, Major H. K Mowarin (rtd.), while on a visit to RU in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State on 14th July, 2017, stressed that just as government was under obligation to pay fees and allowances of benefitting students, the learners must pay back in kind by posting excellent academic performances and not flout school rules through unruly behaviour. He commended Ritman University for accepting to train the students without insisting on prior payment of their fees. Mowarin noted that RU’s magnanimity in accepting the students on credit made it possible for their education not to be delayed while the government is working towards paying their fees.

Greensboro College, USA Signs Academic Exchange with RU

An American University, Greensboro College in North Carolina has signed an Academic Exchange Agreement with Ritman University, Ikot Ekpene. By this agreement, staff and students of both institutions will periodically exchange lecturers as well as students. They will also share ideas, information and materials in addition to doing joint research, conferences and professional development programmes.

Vice Chancellor Celestine Ntuen signed the understanding for Ritman University while the President of Greensboro College – Lawrence D. Czarda – endorsed it on behalf the American institution on 8th August, 2016. Professor Ntuen said that this is the second in a series of partnerships that Ritman University is having with reputable universities from different parts of the world to make faculty and students meet up with international standards of learning, research and development. Ntuen had earlier signed a similar agreement with Guilford College in the United States on 5th April, 2016.
